A Food Waste Anaerobic Digestion plant is a facility that is fueled greater than 50% by volume from Food Residuals as defined in 10 V.S.A. § 6602(31).
Pursuant to 10 V.S.A § 6602(31), Food Residual means source separated and uncontaminated material that is derived from processing or discarding of food and that is recyclable, in a manner consistent with section 6605k of Title 10. Food Residual may include pre-consumer and post-consumer food scraps. Food Residual does not mean meat and meat-related products when the food residuals are composted by a resident on site.
The digester input should be measured by volume. The 50% by volume should be determined based on total input into the digester on an annual basis.
A Food Waste Anaerobic Digestion plant can use non-food residual feedstocks as long as they are less than 50% by volume. Non-food residual feedstocks include animal manure, fats, oils, greases, glycerol, and biosolids.
